The 2024 Hurricane Season has been a long one, and while it’s not quite over yet, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the worst has passed. At Able, we know that scaffolding and shoring equipment can aid in the recovery and rebuilding processes. We want to help our fellow Floridians and our friends throughout the Caribbean recover by offering special discounts and free delivery.
Hurricane Beryl Started the Season with a Slam of the Caribbean
Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the Eastern Caribbean in early July 2024, becoming the first Category 5 hurricane to reach such intensity so early in the Atlantic hurricane season. The storm caused widespread devastation, with Carriacou, Grenada, and the Grenadine Islands suffering extensive damage to infrastructure and at least one fatality. The economic impact was severe, with damages estimated at $3.3 billion across the United States, the Caribbean, and Mexico, including hundreds of millions of dollars in the Caribbean alone. Recovery efforts have been challenging, with entire communities facing flooding and destruction.
Before Wreaking Havoc in North Carolina, Hurricane Helene Hit North Florida
Hurricane Helene struck in late September, causing significant damage across six states, including Florida. The storm resulted in at least 97 deaths and left over 2 million customers without power. The impact on Florida’s infrastructure was substantial, with widespread flooding and wind damage affecting coastal and inland areas. Recovery efforts have been ongoing, focusing on restoring power, clearing debris, and providing emergency assistance to affected communities.
Hurricane Milton Threatened Catastrophic Flooding for Tampa but Tackled Siesta Key Instead
Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 storm in early October, resulting in at least 24 deaths and causing significant flooding, wind damage, and spawning deadly tornadoes. The storm’s impact was particularly severe in central and northern Florida, where many communities faced prolonged power outages and extensive property damage. Local and state authorities have been working to rebuild infrastructure and provide support to displaced residents in the aftermath of the hurricane.
On the Heels of Milton, Hurricane Oscar Caused Damage in The Bahamas
Hurricane Oscar, though smaller in size compared to the other storms, hit the Bahamas and Cuba in late October, causing flooding and at least six deaths. While the impact was less severe than that of the previous hurricanes, the storm still posed significant challenges to local communities and emergency services. Recovery efforts in the affected areas have focused on addressing immediate needs and repairing damaged infrastructure, with support from regional and international organizations.
Scaffolding + Rebuilding Efforts
Scaffolding can play a crucial role in post-hurricane recovery efforts, offering a versatile and essential solution for many rebuilding tasks. After a hurricane, scaffolding provides safe access to damaged structures, allowing workers to assess and repair roofs, walls, and other elevated areas. As a temporary framework, it enables efficient cleanup, debris removal, and structural repairs, which are vital steps in the recovery process.
The adaptability of scaffolding makes it particularly valuable in hurricane-affected areas. It can be quickly assembled and disassembled, allowing for rapid deployment in different locations as needed. Scaffolding systems can be customized to fit various building shapes and sizes, providing a stable platform for workers to repair electrical systems, replace windows, or restore facades. Additionally, scaffolding can be used to create temporary protective structures, shielding damaged buildings from further exposure to the elements while repairs are underway. This multifaceted utility makes scaffolding an indispensable tool in the challenging task of rebuilding communities after a hurricane.
